Wild Mountain Roses Chapter 11
|
The Wild Mountain Roses, Chapter 11 of the Tennessee Society Order of Confederate Rose was chartered on April 7, 2007.
Ms. Ruby Pruitt, State President, along with Carolyn Hedgecoth and Helen Holiday came for the chartering on a cold and snowy day. We had a full house with roughly 30 people in attendance, including camp commanders from the SCV and Brigade Commander, the late Jim Maddox.
When it came time to choose a name for our chapter, it took some thinking. Our area of the state was predominantly Union. We were not aware of any Confederate women that played a significant role in the war for which to name our chapter.
After looking at some names of other chapters in the state, our name was chosen from a little white, 5-petal rose that blooms wild in our mountains in and around Carter County. So many people wonder about our name but when it is explained to them, they like where it comes from . It represents our area very well.
